Eldridge Reeves Johnson made millions of dollars with his Victor  Talking Machine Company. Some of it he used to purchase the original Lewis Carroll manuscript of Alice from bookseller extraordinaire A.S.W. Rosenbach.  He kept the manuscript on his yacht.
